The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted a flight-test of the indigenously developed Pralay quasi-ballistic missile on 5 November 2026. The test took place at approximately 11:10 AM from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island, off the coast of Odisha.
The flight-test was conducted as part of user evaluation trials. Data recorded by instruments deployed by the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, confirmed that all test objectives had been achieved.
Pralay was developed by the Research Centre Imarat, Hyderabad, along with other DRDO laboratories. Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), one of its development-cum-production partners, manufactured the system.
A quasi-ballistic missile follows a trajectory that is partly ballistic but can manoeuvre during flight. Such manoeuvrability can make its flight path less predictable than that of a conventional ballistic missile.
The successful test is an important step towards the system’s induction into the armed forces. The official release stated that induction had become imminent; it should not be interpreted as confirmation that the missile was already operationally inducted.
Organisation: DRDO, Ministry of Defence.
Missile: Pralay.
Type: Quasi-ballistic missile.
Test date: 5 November 2026.
Launch location: Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island, Odisha coast.
Test time: Approximately 11:10 AM.
Development organisation: DRDO.
Lead development laboratory: Research Centre Imarat, Hyderabad.
Development-cum-production partner: Bharat Dynamics Limited.
Test range: Integrated Test Range, Chandipur.
This development is relevant to India’s defence technology, missile systems and indigenous defence manufacturing. Aspirants should remember the missile’s type, development agency, launch location and the distinction between a successful test and operational induction.
