4. SUVIKALP Initiative Receives SKOCH Gold Award 2026
The Coal Controller Organisation (CCO), functioning under the Ministry of Coal, developed SUVIKALP, a digital tool to support the scientific closure and sustainable reuse of mined-out land.
The tool evaluates possible mine-repurposing projects using technical, environmental, social and economic criteria. It helps stakeholders identify suitable projects rather than treating mine closure only as a regulatory requirement.
A related tool, PRISM (Post-Mining Repurposing Implementation Strategy Model), provides implementation approaches, case studies, sample Detailed Project Reports, tender documents and information on agencies working in similar areas.
SUVIKALP received the SKOCH Gold Award 2026 in the category of Digital Operational Efficiency – Data Driven Decision Making.
