3. IMD Introduces a Cyclone Warning and Marine Weather Decision Support System
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) dedicated a new Cyclone Warning and Marine Weather Services Decision Support System to the nation on 12 October 2026.
The system is an interactive, WebGIS-based platform that brings together information useful for understanding cyclones and marine weather hazards. It presents visual information on cyclone tracks, intensity, wind patterns, rainfall forecasts and storm-surge warnings.
The platform is intended to help disaster-management authorities, government agencies, coastal communities and the public interpret forecasts and prepare for possible impacts. It can also support coordination among agencies responsible for warnings, evacuation and emergency response.
The launch took place during the pre-cyclone exercise meeting for the October–December 2026 post-monsoon season.
